Beth Helmers

Artistic Director,
Community Arts Guild

Beth is a theatre director, producer and arts administrator in the field of community-engaged arts. Other practices that inform her work are puppetry, installation, public art, sewing and gardening. She is Artistic Director of Community Arts Guild, an offshoot of Jumblies. Under Beth’s leadership, Community Arts Guild has created and produced several large-scale community plays (Train Payanam, 2013-2015, Unfolding, 2019, and What Was My Backyard? 2020-2023); two Nuit Blanche installations in Scarborough (2018, 2019) and a Signature Project for Toronto’s Cultural Hotspot (2018); and has been awarded numerous school, library, and park residencies from 2012-2023. Most recently the company was a finalist for the Toronto Arts Foundation’s 2023 Community Arts Award.

Beth has a BFA in acting from Toronto Metropolitan University and was the recipient of a George Cedric Metcalf Foundation performing arts internship 2010. She is a past board member of MABELLEarts and serves as co-chair of the East Scarborough Storefront’s steering committee.
