Jagroop Mehta is a visionary arts leader with over two decades of international arts management experience. Born in the UK and with roots in Punjab, India, Jagroop’s diverse cultural background has greatly influenced her approach to the arts. She brings a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the importance of inclusivity and representation.

She is a proud mother of two children and very grateful to be a newcomer settler, currently residing on Between the lakes treaty no 3 land, known as Guelph. Jagroop brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for cultivating inclusivity and breaking down barriers in the arts.

Throughout her career, Jagroop has been a dedicated advocate for amplifying underrepresented artists and serving marginalized audiences. She has held leadership positions in renowned international art galleries, focusing on art beyond the confines of the western canon. Notably, Jagroop’s transformative work at Aicon Gallery and DAG showcased diverse voices and perspectives, challenging traditional narratives and redefining the boundaries of the art world. As co-leader of arts consultancy MehtaBell Projects, Jagroop continued to advise on notable projects that left an indelible mark on the arts scene.

Jagroop led the ambitious professional development program, T.R.A.I.N (Training Respectful Adaptive and Inclusive Networks), for Mass Culture, a leading Canadian arts research organization. Funded by the Canadian Heritage Performing Arts Workers Resilience Fund, this nationwide program united artists and arts workers from across Canada through training to effect systemic change and create a more equitable and sustainable arts sector. Previously during her time at the City of Guelph, Jagroop designed a provincial award-winning Cultural Program that was celebrated for inclusion and collaboration.

As an arts leader, Jagroop Mehta’s extensive experience, passion for inclusivity, and commitment to decolonization continues to be the north star for her practice. Through her work she hopes to leave a lasting impact on the arts community as well as create a more inclusive and equitable future for her children and generations to come. With Balancing Act, Jagroop is thrilled to contribute to a collective effort that places care and community at the core of the arts sector, leading to a more balanced, equitable, and sustainable performing arts landscape.
