The Balancing Act program made it possible for us to reset our relationships with those we purport to serve. In a way, this program is the support we needed to be a more caring company.

Project Duration: February – March 2023
About Aluna Theatre
Location: Ontario
Artistic Discipline: Theatre
Operating Budget: $100,000 to $1,000,000
The artistic mission of Aluna Theatre is to embrace the myriad of voices, cultures, and stories, which are transforming the landscape of Canadian theatre. In our plays, works in translation, and international co-creations, people are complex individuals who exist beyond the restrictions of cultural labels. Aluna Theatre encourages new hybrids of theatre evolved from a rich collaboration of experiences, performance traditions and media by engaging both emerging and established theatre professionals.
Aluna Theatre’s Level UP! Project
The Aluna team was concerned about possible protests or antagonistic behaviour in response to the content of Rubble. The company wanted everyone on the team to feel supported. The Compassion Fund largely covered self-care needs throughout the rehearsal and performance processes.
Project Highlights:
-
- Considering the needs of Front of House staff
- Taking care of a range of care needs that may arise from possible manifestations of political anxiety
- Acknowledging the change in seasons and how this might affect an artist’s needs, particularly if they have a disability
