Blk Orchid’s Level UP! Project
Blk Orchid piloted a model for providing safe, on-site childcare at performance venues—addressing a critical gap for artist-parents. Drawing from her lived experience as a single mother and performer, she partnered with the Greater Toronto Indoor Football League to create a supportive environment for her son during a live halftime performance. The successful pilot demonstrated how thoughtful planning and collaboration with venue staff can make performances more accessible for parents, laying the groundwork for future best practices and advocacy across the live arts sector.
Project Highlights:
-
- The child-friendly space allowed Blk Orchid’s son to watch the event, with refreshments provided and freedom to move within designated zones.
- A short video was made about the pilot to share reflections to support future learning and advocacy.
