High Priestess Artist Re, July 2025, Pine Island, Ontario. Skye Wallace, Kim Temple, Caitlin Veitch, Jasmyn Burke, Ocevnside Clvb, Felipe Sena, Cadence Weapon, Lyle Bell, Kate Boothman, and Cola H.
I feel that the program helped to shift my personal views and values of artists in a caregiver role—from my own unique perspective to a broader understanding of how artists cope with the difficult task of separating creative time/work with taking care of others. The trip to Pine Island and the time in nature also vastly improved my mental health, focus, and energy, enabling me to be a better employee at work and a better parent and partner at home. It was a necessary break from the day-to-day office work.

Operating Budget: Project-based
High Priestess Publishing (HP) is a joint venture between woman-owned and led Six Shooter Records and Canadian music veteran Kim Temple. Created to develop a uniquely independent roster of songwriting talent, HP’s first signings were James Baley, SUN SUN, and Witch Prophet, firmly aligning the company’s core values with those of the 2SLGBTQ+ and racialized artist communities.
Since its inception and launch on the cusp of 2020, High Priestess has grown to include a roster of 40 artists, a staff of five, and an impressive list of sync placements and songwriting credits. Along with creative sync opportunities, High Priestess provides expertise in copyright administration, worldwide royalty collection, songwriter development, and music industry mentorship.
High Priestess Publishing’s Level UP! Project
High Priestess’s Level UP! pilot supported the creation of the Artist Re:Treat Song Camp, a four-day songwriting retreat designed specifically for caregiver-artists. In partnership with BONFIRE ARTS COLLECTIVE, the pilot brought six artist-songwriters together at Pine Island Studio, located in a tranquil setting outside the city. The retreat provided time, space, catering, and professional music production support so participants could step away from daily responsibilities and reconnect with their creative practice. Participating artists were provided with a caregiver honorarium, to help with any accommodations needed back home, such as babysitting, groceries, food delivery, or additional caregiver support during the artist’s absence.
Project Highlights:
-
- Secured additional funding to ensure the song camp would be fully funded to reduce financial barriers to participation for artists.
- Artists/creators bonded over shared meals and stories about the challenges of caregiving.
- Connections made at the song camp led to collaborations that have continued beyond the camp.
