Since 1975, Lunchbox Theatre has been motivated by a desire “to present live theatre during the lunch hour to downtown shoppers and workers” This simple yet profound statement from the theatre’s founders continues to inspire us as we pursue our Vision: To provide lunch for the soul—nourish the community through meaningful and uplifting entertainment.

We hope to be the best part of your day by executing our Mission: Lunchbox Theatre presents engaging, accessible one-act plays primarily at lunchtime, focusing on new Canadian works that examine and explore socially relevant issues. We seek to provide memorable experiences that reflect today’s realities and expand our understanding of life. Lunchbox is a hub for artistic learning—for audiences, artists as well as new plays.

Lunchbox Theatre’s Level UP! Project

Before getting involved in the Level UP! Program, Lunchbox Theatre had begun work with HR Consultant, Louise Casemore, who was researching caregiver support strategies and practices to support caregiver artists involved in productions. During the pilot, Lunchbox Theatre developed and piloted support options for two artists with childcare needs engaged in their productions.

Project Highlights:

    • Building a directory of local childcare providers
    • Offering a childcare stipend to caregivers during the rehearsal period
    • Adjusting rehearsal schedules and a creating a child-welcome workspace
