About Open Pit Theatre
Location: Yukon
Artistic Discipline: Theatre
Operating Budget: Less than $100,000
Open Pit Theatre aims to produce new and innovative physical theatre shows that explore contemporary northern themes and innovative approaches to devising theatre. The company is led by co-artistic directors Jessica Hickman and Geneviève Doyon.
Open Pit Theatre emphasizes the collaborative nature of devising theatre, and thus often invites guest artists from outside the Territory to train, create, and rehearse. We value the exchange of knowledge, resources, and talent between the north and the south and endeavour to create long lasting artistic relationships.
Open Pit Theatre’s Level UP! Project
Open Pit Theatre’s Care Solutions pilot provided childcare and support to playwright and co-artistic director, Geneviève Doyon, to support her active participation in rehearsals, production, and touring of the show, Radio Silence.
Project Highlights:
-
- Determining how project funding would be allocated to best meet the needs of her and her baby was led by Genviève herself
- Funds were used to hire a nanny to care for the baby during rehearsals and to cover baby-friendly travel and accommodations
