About Neworld Theatre

Location: British Columbia
Artistic Discipline: Theatre
Operating Budget: $100,000 to $1,000,000

Neworld Theatre creates, produces, and tours new plays, performance events and digital works. Our work centres stories and perspectives that challenge systems of oppression. Our motto is ‘plays well with others’ which means that collaboration and working across perceptions of difference are vital to the way we work. We deliver community-engaged programs and are at the forefront of developing cultural infrastructure and sectoral capacity in Vancouver and across the country.

Neworld Theatre’s Level UP! Project

Throughout the 2021/2022 season, Neworld Theatre developed a Framework of Care, supported by consultancy with Human Resources Arts Consultant Jeanne LeSage.
Managing Director Alen Dominguez offers that “Neworld Theatre is committed to incorporating our Framework of Care at all levels of operations and programming, and to reviewing it constantly to ensure that Equity is always at its core.”

Project Highlights:

    • Included a matrix for seasonal or contracted artists/arts workers in their framework to self-determine their level of need, along with a series of steps for requesting support
    • Developed a system to determine allocation and level of support
