Natasha Greenblatt, Co-Founder of Two Birds Theatre, leads a ‘parade of the future’, during a performance of Apocalype Play.

[It was] great to have my child busy while I was watching the show. I was relieved and could focus on the play knowing my child was hanging out with artists and likely having fun.

Two Birds Theatre

Location: Ontario
Artistic Discipline: Theatre
Operating Budget: Project-based

Two Birds Theatre is a project-based company dedicated to collaboration across differences: generational, cultural, disciplinary, and/or other kinds of generative difference. Founded in 2016 by Natasha Greenblatt and Rimah Jabr, Two Birds is now run by Natasha Greenblatt and has produced plays, videos, and an audio walk.

Common Boots & Two Birds’ Level UP! Project

Common Boots Theatre (Derek Kwan, Artistic Director and Kesta Graham, Managing Producer) teamed up with Two Birds Theatre to dream up and deliver their Level UP! Pilot. Their project focused on piloting childminding for audiences attending the outdoor production of Apocalypse Play with their children, and a concurrent hour-long activated arts workshop for school-age kids based on the themes of the play, which was an intergenerational auto-fictional collaboration about climate anxiety, grief and the legacy of arts activism and motherhood, created and performed by mother/daughter feminist theatre artists Natasha Greenblatt and Kate Lushington.

Project Highlights:

    • Experimenting with integrating the children into end of the performance, enhancing the thematic content of the play
    • Developing the workshop and childminding successfully within less than two months
